Polishing My List

In my vanity, I had all of my nail polishes in a drawer.  The only problem was that some of the nail polishes were too tall for the drawer, so the drawer couldn't fully close.  Once I finally invested in a jewelry box and organized my jewelry there instead of my vanity, I had a free drawer to dedicate to my nail polish needs.  This is riveting stuff, I can tell.  But, it's my blog and I get to write what I want so pthbbbb to all of you thinking "nail polish storage?  really?"

OK, so, the new nail polish drawer.  I had a plastic storage bin that I tossed into the drawer to help keep the nail polishes from sliding around and falling over.  The only problem now was that the polishes were kind of hard to see, making color selection a bit trickier.

I decided to take a page out of Kelly's book and make myself a nail polish cheat sheet!

I'm not guaranteeing it will make my life a whole lot easier, as I'll still have to locate the selected polish, but I have to admit, it is pretty entertaining to see all of my polishes summarized on one index card!  I have a lot more neutrals than I expected, and far fewer bold colors.  Who knew?

I made two cards -- one for my nail polish drawer and one for my purse so that when I happen upon a 50% Essie display at TJ Maxx or I indulge in a new polish at the grocery store, I can make an educated guess as to what gaps are in my collection.

  1. That's a great idea, to carry around the list with you. Here's another little tip. Get another piece of paper, and with each nail polish, put a small drop on the paper. Then, flip over the brush/cap combo on your nail polish bottle and dip it in the dot you just made so you can get some on the top. That way, you have a better idea of what polish is where since you can't really see the colors very well in the plastic bin.

    1. Ah, thank you! I was trying to figure out how to do this and tried every way I could think of with q-tips, but it just was NOT working. I'll have to give the paper tip a try!

  2. I really need to do this. They currently all live in a shoe box. I have an idea of which colors are where, but I also have an embarrassing amount of nail polish and I need to organize them, so I don't spend too much time looking for the right color. Also, great idea for the purse! Would definitely keep me from spending too much (too late) on nail polish.

  3. This makes my organizing loving heart happy.

  4. I'm kind of obsessed with this. I have a very organized/color-coded collection of specific nail polishes but this seems amazing. Thursday project time. . .
